Germany 3 Jillaroos 1 (1-0 half time)
Goals – Ger Sophie Mayen 3m FG, Aus Hayley Padget 41m FG, Ger Marilena Kraub 46m FG, Ger Lisa-Marie Keim 70m FG
The Jillaroos (under 21s Hockeyroso team) have had a disappointing start to their 4 Nations tournament in India, suffering a 3-1 loss to Germany in the opening game of the tournament.
After allowing Germany to score in the opening minutes of the game the Jillaroos were outplayed for the remainder of the first half.
They worked themselves back into the game, scoring the first goal of the second half at the 41 minute mark thanks to Hayley Padget.
However despite having just as many opportunities as Germany, some poor defence by Australia allowed two more second half goals, giving Germany a 3-1 win.
Jillaroos coach Katrina Powell said she was disappointed by the result.
“An uninspiring first half by the Jillaroos saw us lucky to be only 1 nil down by half time. After picking up our efforts in the beginning of the second half we were rewarded with a well worked goal from Hayley Padget. Although creating enough opportunities to win the game, some relaxed defence saw the points go to Germany,” said Powell.
Marri McMahon, Meg Pearce and Kate Gilmore were amongst the best players for the Jillaroos.
